IDEATHON Competition on “Youth Participation in Combating Desertification” Has Officially Started

As part of the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought and in anticipation of the 17th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), the IDEATHON competition under the theme “Youth Participation in Combating Desertification” is successfully underway.
The preliminary registration for the IDEATHON took place from May 17 to June 2, 2025. A total of 32 teams submitted project proposals and innovative ideas. Based on the selection process, 11 teams were chosen to present their proposals. Among them, three finalist teams will be invited to take part in the national forum “Youth4Land: Youth Engagement Against Desertification and Land Degradation,” to be held in Mandalgovi, Dundgovi province, on June 16–17, 2025, and present their projects.
This competition is unique in that it seeks innovative, technological, and policy solutions from youth to address desertification, land degradation, sustainable livestock management, herders’ livelihoods, and climate adaptation.
The 2025 World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought is being jointly commemorated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, the COP17 Preparatory Office and the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office in Mongolia.
